Yesterday, I had a conversation with Jesse. For you my readers, he gave me the exclusivity of a huge announcement for the custom motorcycle scene. He is relaunching West Coast Choppers. It is almost 4 years that the brand was silent, but the brand equity or goodwill that Jesse owns with West Coast Choppers never faded, quite the opposite. The more difficult it was to order a custom from him, buy one of his parts, or a piece of his logo gear and clothing, the bigger the WCC brand grew, both here in the US and abroad. A name and a brand encompassing through logo, image and perception the best of what is the Chopper Kulture.

Jesse was telling me how much he continues to be moved by the support and encouragements he receives. Yes, he is very sentimental about this, both humbled and still surprised by so much admiration. Is he just a “glorified welder”, the way he likes to described himself? Or much more? Just read the positive responses he receives when he posts on Twitter (186,000 followers) or Facebook (59,000 people like him) or Instagram. In the mind of bikers, Jesse James and West Coast Choppers, separately and together, embody a promise about the products they are selling: true Chopper attitude,.the real stuff with no BS…

NEW YORK (AP) — There's no business like small business.

Mix the high stakes of running a small business with a dash of family drama and throw in a camera crew and you get hit reality television shows such as "Pawn Stars," ''Welcome to Sweetie Pie's" and "Duck Dynasty."

Turning small business owners into stars has become a winning formula for television producers, but some businesses featured in them are cashing in, too. Sales explode after just a few episodes air, transforming these nearly unknown small businesses into household names. In addition to earning a salary from starring in the shows, some small business owners are benefiting financially from opening gift shops that sell souvenirs or getting involved in other ventures that spawn from their new-found fame.

Sales at Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas are five times higher than they were before "Pawn Stars" first aired in 2009. More people are pouring into the St. Louis restaurant featured in "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's" to eat its jumbo-sized fried chicken wings and six-cheese macaroni and cheese. And Duck Commander, seen in "Duck Dynasty," is having trouble controlling the crowds in front of its headquarters in the small city of West Monroe, La.

"Sometimes it's hard getting from the truck to the front door," says Willie Robertson, who owns Duck Commander with his father and stars in the A&E series with his extended family.

Blade Brothers

The premise is that this renown knife maker has this 6 year backlog of orders. The guy "needs" to increase knife production so he brings in his brothers...who freely acknowledge that they have no idea how to make knives. Toss in helpers, who seem to be there to require constant supervision and still make mistakes.

The one brother keeps the workforce going, in spite of not knowing the work. The other brother, a former model who now looks very un-model-like, provides attempts at comic relief...and I stress the term "attempts". Then you have the knife maker's investor/office manager. I also suspect he and the former model brother are in a same sex relationship.

The first episode revolved around this retractable three-bladed thing they were making in a week to sell to a bunch of unseen collectors for an obscene amount of money. So much for the backlog. Time comes into play and they barely finish, part of which is caused by the former-model-brother.

The second episode followed similar lines as the first. This time, the client was an artist that they met trying to sell knives to. The guy "coincidentally" states he needs a knife for a music video he's making. He offers $12k to make an ornate, oversized cleaver...to be wielded by a little girl in the video. I would think they'd use a prop weapon...for weight, safety, etc. reasons. Short deadline, put the backlog on hold. The former-model-brother shenanigans threaten to kill the project. We do get the "hints" that the guy is gay and that the other brother doesn't like it. But everything works out in the end.

I didn't care for it. It follows typical reality formulas. I have to think that Disco is really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Given some of the new shows, I'd say the same could be said for the reality genre as a whole.
